romina’s favorite event

I think that the reason why I am always complaining about the lack of time around here resides in the multitude of events available. yes, it’s a must to check them all! ranging from cultural events to wild parties… one can never get bored. The difficult part is choosing between clashing events… here is my favorite one!

The Vagina Monologues

Don’t run and google the event. Don’t try youtube for this! It is something more than one can capture on tape or convey in words. It’s genuine feeling. Just be there… it was one of the most incredible thing I have ever experienced!

It was a two days event. I have seen it both through the eyes of a spectator and actor…

When the lights went off the first time I was the spectator. The room seemed smaller and cozier. A piano started playing. Afterwards a spotlight… “Vagina – yes I said it” and all of the sudden we were introduced to another world… My friends were there on the stage… performing… and still they were someone else… they were incredibly beautiful yet shocking… they were hilarious yet subtle. it was amazing to see them transform, go beyond themselves and become nothing more than a pure, floating, touchable feeling…

When the lights went off for the second time, I was the actor. I entered the stage too quickly and I stood for 3 minutes in front of a crowd, without saying a word while the piano was introducing my monologue. I was observing my public. They were there for the second night. I was wondering how they would react this time. The monologues were different. Their beauty resided in the deep disturbance they caused. I wanted to convey that. And when I started speaking something shouted out within me… I lost my identity becoming my character.

The entire event had a unique power. I have seen people leaving the room with a mesmerized looked on their face… something changed for them… raising awareness – its one of the few events that had such and impact on myself.

what are your favorite events? yes, i missed many… so i’m looking for suggestions!

  1. The most amazing presentation of an event. I’d surely do my best not to miss it when I come to Jacobs. It sounds so gripping and thrilling.
Thank you, Romina, for the information- it seems that the event is as interesting and valuable as the people who take part in it, so congratulations for your participation. I’d really be glad to attend it (and hopefully take part in it too.)
