mondays

Days here have another rhythm. Sometimes it feels like an artificial life because we spin around campus as in a sort of a ‘bubble’. But we barely have time to think about it… it just goes away too fast… that doesn’t make it less incredible.

8:30 - waking up (given the fact that I went to bed at 2 a.m., now it’s early!!!). Eyes half close, I open the laptop. The surrounding starts to look familiar… a long list of spams, three offline messages –so there are people who went to bed later than I did!

8:45 –fast shower, getting dressed and here I am in the servery. There is my cross-door neighbor, and some others with a 9:45-course. The conversation is a bit abstract because we all are in the ‘waking up’ process. ‘The weather looks good today’- well… the topic is always brought up but today everyone is enthusiastic about it. We start joking and making plans for the day. Officially, I’m awake.

9:20 – back into my room. A long offline from my parents which manly consists of: ‘When do you have time to talk to us?!’ I set up an online conference for today and run for my courses.

9:45 – Theories of Textual Interpretations –yey! We convinced our professor: the course is outside! She stays on the swing and we make a circle around her. Someone has a presentation, and then we start our discussions. These are the most unpredictable things around here. Students come from all over the world, so do the arguments brought up.

11:00 – Statistics. Lab. – I have to run to the other side of the campus. It’s less than a 10 minutes’ walk but is seems the end of the world. There are many students going that direction. We start chatting and I arrive late… again.

12:30 – quick lunch followed by a run in my room for a ‘cleaning process’. that never works but I still hope one day it will…

13:30 – IRC – working hours. I like to believe that i am-at least for some hours- this supreme being that has all the books in the world(and metaphorically speaking -knowledge) and distributes them according to its own wish. unfortunately… that’s only my made up reality which translated would be my job at the ‘Acquisition and Cataloging’ department in the IRC. (so just for the record: secretly I also rule the world)

17:30 – chilling in the comfortable armchairs and enjoying the view from the 3rd floor of the IRC. (even though i found out, after 3 months of being here!, that the IRC has 5 floors I’ve never been there. A reliable source claims there’s the best view on campus… still to be confirmed)

18:00 – fooood! glorious foooood! the servery is the heaven of socializing and the best place of wasting time! practically, there is no better meeting point except ‘eating hours’. everyone is there.if in general one can skip classes, meetings and so on because one’s busy or has to learn (paradoxically we skip classes in order to learn), dinner can never be overlook. you are not supposed to be really hungry… but you have the perfect excuse to forget everything you might be doing at the moment and go meet others and yes… nutrition is important.

20:00 - parents conference. it’s feels good to get news from back home, though i call this place ‘home’. Sometime it’s a bit confusing…

21:00 - pool!!! and i just dive in… i’ve been waiting the entire day for this part. though… i’m not really ‘working’ out hard… at least i can claim i’m doing sports…

22:00 – Internal Affairs Committee – meeting. everyone gathers and of course everyone is late.what is in the agenda? we have two projects at the same time. I am handling the Logo Competition. I have to give an update. But the leader of our committee starts talking… and he is the kind of person that never stops. eventually we all start laughing. we divide tasks… someone has to put up the posters. this time it’s me. I will be printing for the first time in the Library as we have there this huge poster printer!

23:00 – movie session – CIII has recently inaugurated their new multimedia room! we have to visit it and give our feedback!(we meaning a group from the other 2 colleges). So we run at the Pulse (odd hours great offer!) and get some chips. Movie is on…

1:00 – getting into my room. a dozen of spams again… another beautiful spam war… i am tired and sleepy.

How did the day pass by? yes, it’s already 2 a.m.! i’m looking through the window… lights are still on… people are still up…
